1.History of the department in a nutshell
The department of English of Samaguri college was introduced in 1990 with the inception of the college . At the beginning Md. Nur Hussain , Subject Teacher from Kaoimari Higher Secondary School , Ms. Gayatri Borah , Ms.Tulika Borah and Ms. Ruli Saikia had been teaching from time to time for brief periods. Later Prithwiraj Borkakaty joined the department and after serving for a few years left for Raha College . On 11th November 1999 Ms. Labanya Goswami joined and has been teaching in the department still now . Mr. Apurbbajyoti Borah and Ms. Arifa Begum joined the department in 2001 and in 2010 respectively and have been serving till now . The posts of all three teachers were not provincialised till 1st Jan 2021 and they had been rendering their services honorary till that year . Major in English was introduced in 2014 by the department . From the year 2019 the department has been adopting CBCS and teaching as instructed by Gauhati University.Under this system previous major courses are renamed as honours courses.

2. Vision , Mission & Objectives of the Department
Vision : To mould human resources with quality education for a better world .
Mission : To inculcate essential goodness hidden within young human minds by broadening their outlook with the knowledge and wisdom of literature and making them able to communicate with people to promote better understanding among fellow human beings .
Objectives :
1. To provide knowledge of English Literature and Language to the students
2. To enhance communicative skill among the students in the English Language
3.To make the students able to analyse and compare the literature produced in different languages by teaching translated versions
4..To develop creative writing skill and encourage originality
5.To develop the habit of reading and probing deep to practise values in life
6.To build confidence for studying the international languages along with its literature.
