Profile: Department of Geography
1. About the Department:
The department of Geography was established in 1999. The College G. B. appointed Mr. Dewajit Bora and Ms. Bismita Bora as the Lecturer of Geography to start B. A. 1st Year classes from 10th Nov. 1999. Later on in January 2010, Nandita Bhuyan and Kangkana Rabha were appointed as assistant Professor as Mrs. Bismita Bora was left the college. Since 2010 the department has been smoothly running by three Assistant Professors.
The Gauhati University approved permission to start B. A. General Course in Geography on 27/ 11/ 2000 and in the later period it got Concurrence from the Government of Assam on 21/ 02/ 2005, vide DHE Order No. B (2) H. 57/ 2001/ 127.
The department got permission to open Major Course in Geography on 20. 06. 2017 from Gauhati University Vide resolution No R/EC- 04/ 2017/ 14 (B) (i) (27).
The college was provincialized by the Government of Assam w. e. f. 01. 01. 2013 and the post of Dewajit Bora and Nandita Bhuyan was sanctioned by DHE, Govt. of Assam. The third post holder Ms. Kangkana Rabha also got approval w. e. f. January 2021 from the Govt. of Assam

3. Vision & Mission
Vision: The department will try to aware the students, faculties and common people about the latest issues on Physical & Environmental features.
i. Periodic Field Study Tours will be organized for the students so that they can come into contact with the geographical & environmental phenomena for spot study.
ii. Seminars, workshops, group discussions and other awareness programmes will be organized in Zonal and National level.
iii. The department will try to create environmental awareness among the students so that they can take an active part in future for the conservation of the natural resources & environment for sustainable development.
